The stories in the Native language of the Mayan community in Oregon, without voiceover translation to drown out their voices, really impacted me. I appreciate the unbiased narratives and unique experiences that they each shared. They were all so strong and well-spoken and it was beautiful to see.

How personal childbirth is and there is no one size fits all approach. its so individual depending on one's values, and beliefs. and the systems in place should take this into consideration when implementing practices.

It was a very profound experience on how different cultures and believes need to be taken into consideration while providing healthcare during the birthing experience. We don't realize how traumatizing it could be to the mothers, that many times don't know how to express themselves to make the experience less traumatic for them.

My respects toward these women who had the courage to share with us their feelings, ideas and experiences. I believe that it would be wonderful to bring some of their cultural beliefs into our current health care system (especially postpartum) so they can feel more comfortable trusting and approaching to an experience healthcare provider.
